Missing Something

The extra olives on my pizza.  The chocolate chips in my banana muffin.   The prize in my Pink Elephant Popcorn.  The Pez in my dispenser.   The hot chocolate in my thermos.  The zoom on my camera.  The ring in my bell.  The shimmy in my shake.  The crisp on my apple crumble.  The nutmeg on my skinny-soy-extra-hot-easy-foam-vanilla latte. The fudge on my Sundae.  The gilt on my lily.  The spring in my step...

Three weeks is too long.

The Frozen West

It's -3C outside.  Five years ago I would have considered this a balmy
day and walked around complaining about sunburn.  I would have
found something cynical and snappish to say about the fact that the
airbase had once again issued a weather warning for a slight deviation
from the season norm.  I would have sarcastically stamped my feet and
blew on my hands while wearing shorts and sandals at the bus stop.

That was five years ago.  I have lived in B.C. for about four years now and it is -3 C outside.
In order to go from my house to my car this morning, a trip of
approximately nine steps, I wore a hooded down jacket over a thermal
fleece, wool mittens, a wool toque complete with ear flaps, and knee-high
wool socks under my jeans.  All this to dash out, start the car, then
race back to wait in my house while it warmed up for 10 minutes so that
I could make my seven minute commute then race 15 steps into the heated
building in which I work.

It's -3 C outside people!  We're all gonna die!

Happy New Year

Dear 2011,
Thank you for...

... my good friends here and far away.
... the health and heart of Husband.
... coffee.
... surfing.
... the Puntledge River.
... the laughter of my parents.
... the memories of JD.
... chocolate covered marshmallows on a stick.
... did I already mention coffee?  I think I did.  But I really mean it.  Thank you.  Thank you.
